Phone and impersonation, or spoofing, scams are becoming more prevalent. Generally, the common advice was to avoid phone scams and by only picking up calls from numbers you recognize. However, fraudsters are always finding new ways to target and are now spoofing phone numbers you may recognize.

Here are some tips to follow to help protect yourself:

  • If a call is legitimate and important the caller will leave a message in order to connect later.
  • If you answer a call that seems suspicious, hang up immediately.
  • Be wary of calls, even if you recognize the number, if they involve suspicious activity and fraud alerts, program enrollment calls, account access issues, or limited-time offers.
  • Never give out personal information - no matter how legitimate the caller seems.
  • Remember, GSCU and other credit unions will not reach out to members and ask for sensitive information.

Granite State Credit Union has not been involved in any data breach and your information remains secure. Fraudsters gain access to sensitive information through these types of scams and others.

If you have received a suspicious call or text or you believe you have been the victim of fraud, please contact GSCU immediately by calling 1-800-645-4728 or emailing us. If you receive a call that you believe to be a scam, report it to the FTC and to your state attorney general, or if you are in New Hampshire, the NH Department of Justice.
